REPEATER: PROPER USE

The Lowell Amateur Radio Youth Club’s K8LHS repeater is an ‘open’ repeater for those that use it properly. Violators will be asked to not use it. We use it to promote our hobby, aid when needed, serve as a good means of communications during an emergency plus, and very important, provide enjoyment for its users.

Language must be polite. Be upbeat, courteous and friendly. Make everyone feel at home. Don’t be the ‘lid’ (poor operator) that is always a ‘complainer’.

Absolutely no obscene or indecent words or language including suggestive phrases.

Politics and religion are not to be discussed.

Provide a brief pause of a couple of seconds between exchanges to allow other stations to join in or make a quick call.

Transmit your call-sign at least every 10 minutes during your contact and at the end of your conversation.

Key your mic, then wait for about one second for the repeater to ‘power up’ before speaking.

Commuting ‘rush’ hours are times when the repeater may be used more often. At those times the repeater should be shared fairly and cooperatively. Do not monopolize the repeater.

Amateur radio operators should use plain language. Don’t use CB phrases, or slang. Phonetics, especially call signs, is encouraged.

Common sense and good amateur radio practice are basic guidelines that we need to adhere to.

Have fun and enjoy the ‘machine’
